  8. My Mother was born in Rivisondoli on December 23, 1914, just before a severe earthquake hit on 12/25 or so, killing her grandmother who was attending church. Her Mother was Adelina Bucciconi and her Father was Louis Mancini. My Mother Anne immigrated to the US in 1921 with her Mother and her uncle, Dario Bucciconi arriving on Ellis Island. They had to reside in Paris for a while since the Italian quota was already filled at that time. My Mother and her Mother were greeted by relatives who were surprised to see them wearing stylish clothes while the American relatives were wearing all black and old-fashioned clothing! My grandfather had already arrived in the US a few years before his wife and daughter. They ultimately domiciled in Arnold, PA, a small city 18 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

  11. It seems many came from Rivisondoli to the New Kensington, Arnold & Lower Burrell region. I’m curious if anyone found out if that was based on the area and where they got sent or if it was because so many others from the region. Any information?

  12. My great grandfather, Nicolantonio Mascio, was from Rivisondoli. I believe a large earthquake damaged the church, S Nicola di Bari, in the 1920’s and Nicolantonio was put in charge of rebuilding the facade of the church. He had acquired rock cutting skills from his time working in Pittsburgh. My grandfather, Gildo “Gino” Mascio, was his middle son and spent many months/years helping. My grandfather told me that when the work was complete, Nicolantonio sketched his name in the ceiling of the arched entryway to the church. If anyone reading this travels there, can you see if a sketched name is in the ceiling of the arch and take a picture for me to see?
