Fagnano Alto is a municipality located in the province of L'Aquila at 665 meters (2182 feet) of altitude. Fagnano Alto has 440 inhabitants and a surface area of 24.64 square kilometers (9.51 square miles).
The municipality of Fagnano Alto also includes the following suburbs: Termine, Frascara, Campana, Opi, Pedicciano, Ripa, Vallecupa (sede comunale), Castello (altitudine 900 m s.l.m.), Colle, Corbellino.
Fagnano Alto was part of the Kingdom of Naples before the unification of Italy (1861).

I am second generation Italian living in USA. My father Alfred Pellegrini was born in New York in 1924. His father was born in Abruzzo, we believe Fagnano Alto, around 1885. His American name was “John” Pellegrini. His wife was probably born in same area and was named Clarinda Rugierre. I am looking to find more information on my grandparents and their preceding history. My father Domenico Antonio Gabriele Crisi and his parents, etc. were born, baptized, and lived in Ripa Fagnano Alto. They attended St. Vittorino Church. His father — my grandfather — was Benedetto Crisi who married Annantonia Bologna. My uncle Mariano (Mario) Crisi married Francesca Pompeani. My aunt Cesidia Crisi married Joachim Fattore. Other paesani from village of Ripa: Legge, Leli, Troiani. I have visited L’Aquila and Ripa and attended St. Vittorina. My nephew — Mario Crisi’s son — lived and worked with his wife in L’Aquila until the terrible earthquake in 2009. I have not heard from him since the earthquake. I understand he and his wife evacuated to Ripa. Another relative of mine is Cesare Fattore.

My grandfather, Giuseppe Catignani born in July 1885 was from Fagnano Alto and migrated to New York about 1905. His parents were Nunzio Catignani and Francesca Lozzi. Giuseppe’s American name became Joseph Catigano. We are hoping to learn anything about Giuseppe and his family history. My name is Harold Rice. My wife Silvana Panone was born in Pedicciano Sept 9 1942. Her mother was Aadria Palazzo and father Cesar Panone. They came through Ellis Island in 1953 to settle in Detroit. Silvana past away March of 2022. We would be married 60 years this April 21 2022. I know she has a cousin Wanda Palazzo still in Italy as she left message to Silvana’s obituary.
