  1. I am looking for any/all information on my ancestors from petrella tifernina. My grandfather, Pasquale Pietro Robertuccio, was born there around 1865. I know his father’s name was Giuseppantonio who was born around 1840, and his father’s name was Pietrangelo(Caterinono) Robertuccio who was born around 1820. I would greatly appreciate help from anyone who can help me learn more information on my family.
    Sincerely,
    Joe Robertucci

  3. On the 8th of February 1944, a steamer transporting around 3500 Italian prisoners was sank by the british submarine Sportsman, just out the bay of Suda, island of Crete, Greece. The vessel was previously owned by an Italian company with the name of Capo Pino, however after the “armistice” dated 8 September 1943, the ship was confiscated by the third reich troops in Crete and renamed Petrella. Like other ships, Petrella was loaded with those solders who refused to fight under the Germans. 2670 lives were lost in what should be considered a war crime, since the commander of the submarine knew that they were prisoners. Almost 500 names of those who died in the sinking are known, among them private Armando Asiatico, born 19 November 1921, in Petrella Tifernina! [email protected]
